Though it contains only about 1,700 people, the town of Mosstone is notable for two reasons.
First, it lies along the Trade Way, a merchant road that follows the west coast of Faerun from as far north as Baldur's Gate (where it's known as the Coast Way). This means that most travelers from the north will pass through Mosstone on their way to larger cities in Tethyr.
Second, Mosstone is located on the edge of the Forest of Tethyr, better known as the Wealdath. And not far from Mosstone is a grove of more than 200 druids, who work together with the citizens of Mosstone to educate travelers on how to protect the forest and avoid angering the elves of the Wealdath.

Shortly after the start of the year 1376, Mosstone was invaded by a force of monsters from the north, led by a powerful ogre mage. The town was quickly overrun, as was the druid grove. An unknown number of the town's residents may have been taken prisoner. However, the druid grove suffered severe casualties, with only 40 druids left alive and accounted for.
