I was looking into the Greyhawk setting because I was curious about it and was wondering if anyone had a book called Living Greyhawk? And if so what do they think about it?
Greyhawk was the original D&D world back in the time of the first edition of D&D and this seems to be the only major 3.0/3.5 book on it. Otherwise Forgotten Realms unofficially took its place as the main D&D world.
Based on the reviews this setting seems to strike a middle ground between the higher magical atmosphere of Forgotten Realms and the lower magical atmosphere (and other restrictions) of Ravenloft. I personally don't have any problem with the magic atmosphere in Forgotten realms so far and enjoy the game we are playing in now but this does sound like a good and interesting balance to me and would like to see more of what its all about.
I've seen it describe in one review as more dark and kind of like Ravenloft in that department but also described as more of a traditional fantasy Tolkien like setting. Sounds like good stuff. Maybe if anything it can serve as an alternative to Ravenloft if you want a dark atmosphere setting that allows more freedom and traditional fantasy elements.
